Carlow Kilkenny FC took the lead midway through the first half, with a sweeping move that saw Rory O’Dowd pull the ball back for Andrew Mulvey-Meskall to finish. Galway looked for an equalizer but were unable to get in behind a resolute Carlow Kilkenny defense.
At the other end Myles Hutton and Andrew Mulvey-Meskall were prong to be a real handful and Cian Franey was unlucky not to put Carlow further ahead when he chipped the Galway keeper.
Although Galway started the second half brightly they were struggling to get anything past the back three of Dylan Stickle, Nicky Leonard and Adam McCarron. Myles Hutton had a great opportunity to make it 2-0 after a pull back from Andrew Mulvey-Meskall, but he blazed his shot over the bar from 10 yards . Carlow Kilkenny FC did make it 2-0 after 65 minutes with a fine solo run from David Morrissey ending with him shooting to the far corner. On 80 minutes Rory O’Dowd scored the goal of the game, chipping the Galway keeper from the half way line to make it 3-0 to Carlow Kilkenny FC . Although Galway tried to find a consolation goal Niall Rowe and Evan Connolly for Carlow Kilkenny FC worked tirelessly to protect the back 3 and ensure a clean sheet for the visitors.
